結構︰主詞＋not only／not only…but（also）…此句型意為“不僅／不但…而且…”。

 

重點(一) not only…but also 稱為“<對等連接詞>”，所連接的兩個單字，須用相同的詞性。

例句:

    Cindy not only swept the floor but (also) washed the dishes.
    Cindy不但清掃地面而且也洗碗筷。

    The sandwich not only smells good but (also) tastes delicious.
    這個三明治包不但好聞而且好吃。

    He is famous not only for his talent but (also) for his honesty.
    他不僅以才能出名，而且是出名的誠實。

    Not only is she beautiful, but she is (also) kind.
    她不僅漂亮，而且善良。

重點(二)如果連接兩個動詞時，前後的時式要一致；如用於連接兩個主詞時，重點在第二個主詞，因此動詞須與第二個主詞一致。

例句:

    Not only you but (also) I am to blame.
    不僅你，連我都要受責難。

    Not only the students but also the teacher was at the party.

    不僅學生，連老師都去了派對。

重點(三)若連接對等的<主要子句>，而由 not merely，not only 開頭，則要用倒裝形式。

例句:

   Not only did the dog bark at her, but it also bit her.
  這隻狗不但對她叫，而且咬了她。

   Not only was my boss full of praise for me, but he also promised to 

  give me a raise.
  老闆不僅讚美我，同時要幫我加薪。
