Just as erudite mentors nourish our mind, so does the education we receive in school influence our daily lives. Nowadays, whether school courses should focus on general subjects or technical training is under fierce discussion. Some people hold the perspective that courses that pay attention to specific skills can efficiently enhance students’ abilities in their future careers while others assert that fundamental knowledge is the essential key to the ultimate success. As far as I am concerned, schools should concentrate on general subjects, which are vital in laying a solid foundation for pursuing a prosperous future.

First and foremost, general subjects offer everything we need to reach a higher level of academic accomplishments. It’s without doubt that an in-depth course is built on the basis of fundamental subjects. Therefore, a stronger academic performance in the general subjects can usually facilitate students’ learning in technical courses. Ultimately, this will lay the cornerstone of future success.

Moreover, when we participate in general courses, we are able to meet various kinds of people. These people symbolize the diversity of ideas, which may spur our creativity and imagination. In addition, group discussion in class can further consolidate peer relationships among students. From this perspective, not only do we learn knowledge in class, but the lessons also provide a platform for us to meet new friends, as enhances students’ social and communicative skills. 

Last but not least, many successful figures garnered most of their practical experience required to deal with job-related issues after graduating from school. From this viewpoint, the main functions of special-purpose courses will be less essential than they are originally designed for. For example, many companies demand the new employees should participate in professional training lessons prior to tackling real tasks. This indicates that professional courses in schools might not provide much aid in one's future career, highlighting the relative importance of general courses.

In a nutshell, from the arguments I mentioned above, I sincerely believe that general courses provide better chances to enrich our knowledge and broaden our horizons, not merely a means of obtaining the credits needed for graduation.
